Jozef Straus Ph.D., D.ScChairmanDr. Straus holds honorary doctorates from the University of Alberta, University of Ottawa, and from Touro College in New York. He currently serves on the boards of various private high-tech companies and is acting as the Co-Chairman of the Ottawa Hospital’s Legacy Campaign. Dr. Straus is a past board member of Group Telecom, Photonics Research Ontario, the Alberta Information and Communication Technology Advisory Board and the University of Ottawa’s Science Advisory Council. Dr. Straus has numerous patents, publications, and other honors to his credit, notably the 2004 NRC/CATA Alliance Innovation & Leadership Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the 2001 Engineering Management Award from the University of Southern California. Dr. Straus is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. |

Professor Alan WillnerMemberAlan Willner received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University. He was a Postdoctoral Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories (Crawford Hill) and a Member of Technical Staff at Bellcore. He is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California. Prof. Willner has served on several scientific advisory boards for small companies. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Optical Society of America (OSA), and he was a Fellow of the Semiconductor Research Corp. Professor Bahram JalaliMemberProfessor Jalali is a Fellow of IEEE and of the Optical Society of America and recipient of the R.W. Wood Prize from Optical Society of America for the invention and demonstration of the Silicon Raman Laser. In 2005 he was elected into the Scientific American Top 50, and received the BrideGate 20 Award in 2001 for his entrepreneurial accomplishments. Dr. Jalali serves on the Board of Trustees of the California Science Center. He has published over 350 scientific publications, including articles in the Scientific American and Nature, and holds 7 patents. |

Professor Alex JenMemberAlex Jen received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He held the position of Chair at the Department of Material Science & Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle Washington since 2006. He is currently the Boeing/Johnson Chair Professor of Materials Science & Engineering and the Founding Director of the Institute of Advanced Materials & Technology (i-AMT). He is a Fellow of the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE), the Optical Society of America (OSA), the American Chemical Society’s Polymeric Materials Science & Engineering Division (PMSE), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Prof. Jen has more than 400 publications, including greater than 50 patents/inventions. Because of his contributions in both academic research and business development, he was appointed by the Washington State Governor Gregoire to join the Washington Technology Center Board of Directors. Dr. Jen also serves as Chair on the Advisory Board of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Transformative Materials Initiative. Anik BoseMemberAnik Bose has headed the business development functions at communications technology companies such as 3Com as well as biotechnology focused companies such as Monsanto. In his business development roles he has managed a $250M corporate venture fund, spearheaded dozens of venture capital investments and executed numerous spin out transactions as well as several large M&A transactions over $1.4B in value. On the communications technology side, Mr. Bose architected the launch of the fastest growing Asian networking company (H3C - 3Com's joint venture with Huawei), which achieved annual revenues of over $700 million and a market valuation of $1.8B within 36 months of launch. For Monsanto, Mr. Bose developed and implemented global biotech growth strategies targeted towards achieving a significant return on Monsanto's $10 billion of acquisitions. Mr. Bose is currently a partner at Benhamou Global Ventures. BGV is an early stage venture fund that assists entrepreneurs in building a new generation of high technology companies. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bose served as a Partner in the High Technology Practice of Deloitte Management Consulting in San Francisco. Mr. Bose holds a MBA from Boston College and BA in Economics from the University of Delhi, India. |
